My poem "Peg Powler", inspired by the lore about a water-demon said to lurk in the River Tees, is scheduled for future publication in the e-zine Bewildering Stories (http://www.bewilderingstories.com/). The managing editor commented that it is not a poem one would want to see on a riverbank sign!
This is actually my second poem entitled "Peg Powler". There is another that I posted on a forum or two written from Peg's perspective. The one set to appear in Bewildering Stories is written from the perspective of a nursemaid or parent warning children to stay away from the river, using the character of Peg Powler to scare little lads and lasses in traditional nursery-bogie style.
By the way, here's a reminder to check out my cinquain "Autumnal Woodland Morn" (http://www.everydaypoets.com/autumnal-woodland-morn-by-richard-h-fay/) at Every Day Poets (http://www.everydaypoets.com/). If you haven't already done so, please rate it, and perhaps leave a comment.
Thanks!

Congrats. I didn't quite understand Autumnal Morn, but that's okay. I'm not really poetry-minded. /emoticons/smile.gif

Thanks, Lyn!
As for understanding "Autumnal Woodland Morn", visualize bare tree branches swayingin a grey November sky. Then imagine a mournful wind (using "morn" in the title was a bit of a play on homophones) blowing through those skeletal trees. The tops of trees, the leaves and the living branches, arecalled crowns, so thewinds are basically mourning the loss of the leaves. The cold air causes the leaves tofall, thus the crowns fall.
I hoped that helped you to understand the poem a little better.

Ah, makes good sense now. Thanks for explanation, although it's probably like explaining a joke, if you have to, then the listener just isn't... lol

That reminds me of the kappa from Japan. There are still signs in some places near rivers warning children of the dangers of kappa in the water.
Peg is a great subject for a poem (or two), in my opinion. Congrats!

Ah yes, the kappa. They probably serve the same purpose as Peg Powler, Jenny Greenteeth, and various other water-demons. Children may not be terribly scared of the threat of falling in and drowining, but they would definitely be wary of nasty water monsters.
Obviously I thought Peg wasinteresting enough to write about twice. To be quite honest, I had forgotten about my first Peg Powler poem when I wrote the second. Thank goodness they are clearly different works!

Iused a lot of figurative language in that one, so perhaps it was one of my "denser" pieces. To understand the poem, you need to understand the figurative language, and the many meanings of the words.
I think, for such a small poem, it actually makes you think quite a lot about what the words mean, and what they are saying.
