Clearly a labor of love.
And check out the magnificent cover paintings- better than 95% of the books on the shelves of your local bookstore.

It's too bad that this review (which was still very well done - don't get me wrong) used so little space for this piece. Metal Mages and Bring Me Three Severed Heads are easily my two favorite pieces in this collection. At first, the science aspect of this piece didn't go down right, but it turns out that I based the entirety of my view of the Magistria world around Robert's vision. In fact, I'm using his idea as a major component of my next contribution to the Magistria series (oh yeah, you should probably know that, too, Robert).

And add my thanks to the list, Bruce. I'm glad you enjoyed my story.

Cool -- I can't wait to see what you've come up with, Rob. My second Magistria story is influenced a bit by Christopher Sloan's Swords in the Waves: A Tale of Dog Company (http://www.lulu.com/content/125468), so it's good to see this sort of cross-fertilization of ideas occuring -- which, after all, is part of the fun of doing a shared world anthology like Magistria.

It was a well-crafted piece.

Because there were 14 stories involved it became a conscious decision on my part to make my comments short and succinct, as opposed to long and verbose. It was still my longest review.

I liked this review, you covered each story enough for me to get your honest oppinion but not so much as to obviate my need to read them for myself. As the review was positive that's pretty much hitting the mark for a reviewer. I've seen so many reviews (though none by you) that gushed enthusiasticly so much detail they left me with no reason to check out the source material for myself. No matter how much the reviewer liked it.

Thank you again, Bruce. I've completed my second contribution to this series, and I need to sit on this piece for a while to bring it down to a more manageable length (ringing in at 11,000 words right now - eek). We have an October 1st deadline for stories, so I figure the second Magistria book will be a holiday release. Just guessing.

Robert, I've got a bit of Sword Mage going on in this story as well. This is where we might run into problems with some of the stories. What if they all revolve around just a few of the mage disciplines? I don't believe that's happening, since both Sand Mage stories are continuing where they left off.

I love this concept. It's been a lot of fun creating this shared world, and I hope it continues as long as we keep putting together good stories.

I actually don't have any sword mages in my story. I just stole the idea of setting a story on a ship, with the tension mounting slowly and inexorably, and the knowledge that things will be bad when the ship reaches its destination.
