For those of you who don't know, I'm a newspaper editor.
This week I've talked our Life editor into letting me write a monthly column about writing fiction (but I'm hoping this will become a weekly column eventually).
I can't write only about spec fiction, but my column will give me an opportunity to discuss all aspects of fiction writing.
Also, for you editors reading this, I'm looking forward to mentioning some of your publications. I'm already thinking about suggesting Pitch-Black's 'Sages and Swords' to readers of my column. 'Sages and Swords' not only has entertaining stories, but solid information for writers and an interview with R.A. Salvatore.

Ty: Judging by the number of people who try their hand at writing, you might really be onto something there. Good luck with it.

Look for: 'The Mask Oath' in Lords of Swords II; 'The Grey Mother' and 'The Bloated Curse' in Flashing Swords; 'Snake Eyes' in Freehold: Southern Storm and 'Zeerembuk' in Clash of Steel 3: Demon.

Ty: I had to mention you in the interview, bud. You're one of the greatest fantasy authors I've ever drank a beer with.

Jeff, thanks for the idea. I hadn't thought about the fraud angle yet.

Steve, but what about that porter you shared with ole J.R.R. himself? Wow, I must be held in high esteem in the Goble household.

Well, since J.R.R. is long dead, I had to drink all the porter myself. Not really a bad deal, as I recall ... but he stuck me with the bill and the tip.

Ty,
You might be able to syndicate it eventually, as aspiring (and deluded) writers are not just restricted to your corner of the Heart of it All, but exist through Ohio, and, perhaps, the world. If there, indeed, is a world beyond the borders. I think most small and medium papers in Ohio are looking for content that will engage readers. If you want to go through the pain of an annual writing contest, there's that, too. You could probably bring back some well-known writers from the area, like Swashbucker, and do a half-day forum. One of the local branch colleges, OU-Chillicothe or Shawnee State, would probably even throw some refreshments/ resources your way.
regards,
Tom

TW, thanks for the ideas. Much to ponder. But I'm down in the land of Marshall University now, just aross the river.
Syndication would have to be way down the road, I fear.
I really like the idea of a writing forum. I'll have to do a little more research and find out what writers there are in my area; the few I know of all are published through vanity presses, which I'm not saying is a bad thing, but it's not the audience I'm necessarily shooting for. But hey, they're writers too.

I'm going to try to stay away from the delusional writers. My Life editor has already warned me I'll probably get book review offers from every ckook across the country, and I don't want to do book reviews.
