The hardest soldier in the Octovian Empire is in at the deep end again.
Sven Tveskoeg is in General Indigo Jaxx's bad book. Despite having saved the General's son on a recent mission. But Sven is used to being unpopular. More surprising to Sven is discovering that OctoV, the empire's glorious and undying leader, is also being blacklisted, by the very people who should be supporting him.
On a promise Sven takes himself off to Farlight, searching for a missing Vijay Jaxx. Along the way he manages to make an enemy of General Luc of the Wolf Brigade. Not to mention most other people he meets.
Battling genetically engineered Furies at one turn, and a population in revolt on the other, Sven's penchant for shocking violence and rat cunning serve him well.
Teaming up with the beautiful (and lethal) Sergeant Leona, a young woman who may be more than she seems, Sven once again proves that it's better to be born lucky than good.
Being a hard as nails ex-Legion trooper with a bionic arm and a wise-cracking Smart-Gun doesn't hurt either.
UK author David Gunn, a mysterious figure himself, has written three books featuring his steel tough anti-hero, Sven Tveskoeg.
Written in first person, present tense, the writing is sharp edged and doesn't waste a word.
Whilst some people may find the POV style a little different from what they are used to Mr Gunn uses it beautifully to describe the dark and gritty futuristic world as seen through Sven's eyes.
Death's Head: Day of the Damned is one of those books that's hard to put down once you've started reading.
Recommended for lovers of hardcore, fast paced sci-fi action and adventure.

My son isn't anywhere near the comic book geek I was when I was his age, but we were both excited to see The Avengers. We'd seen all the prequels and enjoyed them, although I think I enjoyed
