The primary is that I want to grow the SFReader community. I read (where I can't remember) that there are about 20,000 regular readers of science fiction and fantasy (this doesn't include media tie-ins). That's a pretty small group. By contrast, there are millions of fans of science fiction and fantasy movies. Take a look at the 20 highest grossing films of all time (not adjusted for inflation):
1 Avatar 2009
2 Titanic 1997
3 The Lord of the Rings: The Return of the King 2003
4 Pirates of the Caribbean: Dead Man's Chest 2006
5 Alice in Wonderland 2010
6 The Dark Knight 2008
7 Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone 2001
8 Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End 2007
9 Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix 2007
10 Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince 2009
11 The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers 2002
12 Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace 1999
13 Shrek 2 2004
14 Jurassic Park 1993
15 Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire 2005
16 Spider-Man 3 2007
17 Ice Age: Dawn of the Dinosaurs 2009
18 Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets 2002
19 The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring 2001
20 Finding Nemo 2003
Even if you discount kids' animation movies and comic book based--which are argueably a genre on their own--we're left with every movie except for one (Titanic) being straight old-school science fiction or fantasy.
So maybe science fiction and fantasy movies are the gateway drug to a lifelong interest? Movie to media tie-in novels to 'real' science fiction and fantasy. I wonder how many people went out and read Lord of the Rings for the first time because of the movies? That would be interesting to know.
So here's what I'm looking for:
- Check out the reviews I've written so you understand what I'm looking for
- Write your own reviews of a movie or TV series NOT already reviewed on the site
- Send the review to me using the forums private messaging feature-yes, you have to be an SFReader member to submit a review
- If I accept your review, I'll pay you $5
If you're thinking about reviewing a TV show, please only send in season level reviews. Once I win the lottery, I'll pay for episode level, but until then I can't spring for 22 reviews of the second season of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles.
Caveats: I want to keep paying easy, so my preference is PayPal. If you accept PayPal payments, I'll send you the $5 right away (as a Service payment). If you want a check, I'll send it once you hit $25. These are the only payment methods I'm offering.
Please feel free to spread the word!
If you have questions, please ask in this thread.

Book Review: Swords of the Horseclans (Horseclans #2), by Robert Adams
Swords of the Horseclans (Horseclans #2)
By Robert Adams
Review by Dave Felts
Rating: (2.5/5)
While I would classify the first volume a being close to heroic fantasy, albeit in a future apocalyptic setting, this second volume in the series, Swords of the Horseclans, is more military fantasy. Book 1 ends with Milo completing his odyssey of leading the Horseclans from the high plains of the middle use to the eastern seaboard, where he establishes them in their new home and forms the Confederation.
