Title: ALIEN DIPLOMACY, by Gini Koch
Publisher: DAW Books
Pub Date: April 2012
Rating: 4 out of 5 stars
Reviewer: Joshua Palmatier
I really enjoyed this book in the Alien series, more than the last few. This one had a little more focus for me, and the plot was a little less chaotic and the people easier to follow, which is a good thing. It was still a fast-paced, convoluted, wild story like the others . . . just more fun than the others because it was just that tiny bit calmer.

I have to say I really enjoyed Under the Dome. It had all of the elements of a Stephen King novel that I love--lots of characters, people to root for, people to hate, an interesting set-up, and of course a horrific conclusion.

Full Circle: Electronic Afterlife by Alfred R. Taylor
Reviewed by Michael D. Griffiths
Publisher: Self Published
Year Published: 2012
Rating: 3 out of 5
Full Circle: Electronic Afterlife, by Alfred R. Taylor is a self-published novel. It is odd in the fact that it takes place in the present, the future, and even the past. Mark Aaron is a historical researcher until the death of his body. His mind however stays intact and is placed into an android body in the far flung future. Why his mind was picked remains a mystery, even to the reader. The novel is mostly from his point of view, but does veer off to put us within the mind of the story’s primary villain for a while. Later, we also experience things through the eyes of a pioneer woman when Mark and his fellow android and side kick Jane travel back into the Wild West.

This anthology is a bloody well scream for Zombie Apocalypse fans. It contains 12 blood rending and flesh rending tales of zombie delight. Anyone from eight to eighty, who enjoys a zombie-killing good time, can delight in this collection of stories. Especially notable are “High Desert Horror,” by Michael D. Griffiths for its southwestern post-apocalyptic landscapes and “The Tomtin,” for its legendary Christmas horror.

Title: LUCKY BASTARD by, S.G. Browne
Publisher: Gallery Books
Pub Date: April 2012
Rating: 3 out of 5 stars
Reviewer: Joshua Palmatier
This book is slightly outside of my usual reading list, since it's more mainstream than sci-fi/fantasy. It certainly has an SF&F flavor to it, as you'll see, but it still wouldn't be considered urban fantasy (even though it's close). I mostly got this book because I was the moderator on a panel at the San Diego Comic Con, and S.G. Browne was one of the panelists. I was doing some research on the panelists and read the first part of this book (about 50 pages) to get an idea of what it was about. I set it aside shortly after that, but it kept calling to me, so I picked it up recently, started it over again, and finished it off. The fact that I returned to it when I have probably a couple of hundred other books in the SF&F genre on my shelves waiting to be read tells you something about the book.

It's the second in their Frenzy series, or Frenzy Wolves series, after The Frenzy Way. So we have another werewolf novel, a sequel at that. And it's set in modern New York again. The wrinkle is that the werewolves are the goodgize! Well, mostly. There was that rogue that our human hero, Tony Mace, killed two years ago, and a dissident werewolf faction led by the current pack leader's brother. We're not sure about them yet.

Awakening: The art of Halo 4 is quite an impressive undertaking. It is a majestic oversize hard covered book that dazzles the eye. Now, as I have said before, I am not much of a video game player. I barely even know what Halo is about. Between that and no having television, I am dangerous out of the loop here, but that does not keep me from appreciating fine works of art and that is what this giant book is all about.

This is Stephen Blackmoore's second novel and it's unrelated to his first, City of the Lost, at least in terms of sequels or series. Trapped is the fifth book in the Iron Druid Chronicles by Kevin Hearne. I read the first book in the series and was floored.
