    Default Glen Cook's Dread Empire

For those interested, NightShade Books continues to reprint Cook's novels of the Dread Empire.

Surprisingly, however the next volume will be a collection, not a novel or omnibus.

I've never heard of Cook writing short fiction aside from some excerpted
chapters of 'The Black Company' published as stand-alone tales.

Cook, Glen - An Empire Unacquainted with Defeat
    Coming November 2008

Glen Cook has been heralded as the godfather of modern heroic fantasy; his
influence on the genre is unquestionable. But long before Garrett, P.I., before
The Instrumentalities of the Night, before The Black Company, there was The
    Dread Empire...

An Empire Unacquainted with Defeat collects all of Glen Cook's short fiction set
in the vast world of the Dread Empire, from 'The Nights of Dreadful Silence',
featuring the first appearance of Bragi Ragnarson, Mocker, and Haroun bin
Yousif, to the culture-clashing novella 'Soldier of an Empire Unacquainted with
Defeat'; from 'Silverheels', Cook's first published work of fiction, to 'Hell's
Forge', a haunting tale of cursed pirates and strange lands, appearing here for
    the first time.

Ditto on the Cook short work - though it might be worth a look. I'm a HUGE fan of the Garrett series...

Yeah, I've just started on the Garrett stuff the past few years. It is great stuff.

I got turned onto Cook by a friend who loaned me The Black Company. Fantastic stuff.

I try to read a few Cook books per year now. Love it.
