    Default True Blood

    Who is watching it?

    Have you read the books?

What do you think about the show so far?

I wasn't impressed by the first episode, found it boring and cheap-looking.

I think the show's powers that be are trying to make it look all white trash. That wasn't how I read the books at all btw. I saw Sookie as having a rare dignity to her. She knew herself pretty well. She had made do with everything life had thrown at her. Then one night something new walked in. She thought it was refreshing and cool. LMAO.

I thought the first episode was okay. Some of the casting didn't make me happy. I was quite shocked too at how flimsy and small the silver chains were.

I liked the second episode better. For one thing, they got rid of the needle dick fangs. Those really bothered me.

For now, I'll keep watching the show. The storyline is fairly faithful to the books despite the red neck looks of the sets and characters.

People seem to really love this show. I want to like it but I just don't. Can anyone explain its appeal??

    Well . . .
my views are skewed because I don't watch this (or any) show on cable, I bought the first season on DVD. Watching the whole first season together rather than waiting for weeks between episodes can either kill a show or make it seem much, much better.
TrueBlood was one of the latter, I think.
As to its appeal, its exactly like the books, to me. All white trash may be a little harsh, since the characters are not all white and the show hasn't moved past the tiny rural town of Bon Temps but everything seems pretty much as I remember rural La. from the brief times I've lived there.
I like the sex, its almost exactly like the books, and the story line. I think the casting is brilliant. Pretty much every one on the show rings true, except some of the Vampires but those ones don't last long. Whats not to like?

No, the second season is better than the first season of True Blood. The characters and plot lines are much more multilayered. I'm pleasantly surprised.

I like the show but can't say it is one of my favorites. I do think season 2 was better than season 1.

I do find the swearing rather wearing... Charlaine Harris managed to get around that most of the time - I've just finished reading 'Dead as a Doornail' and there were 3 instances of the 'f' word - would it was so sparse in the show! Having said that, I think the atmosphere & feel is spot on - and the story line seems very faithful to the books. And Sookie's character seems spot on.
