Default Amazon.com Reviews of RotS - An Appeal

    Dear RBE supporters:

This post is a simple requestto any and all who have read Return of the Sword:

Please post a review of the anthology on the RBEtitle at Amazon.com.

Cut and paste reviews from your websites, write newreviews - whatever you prefer, but please consider doing this at your earliest convenience. I am trying to get Amazon to at least list the old title as out of print and have the RBE title appear first in searches. In addition to getting a Kindle version of the new title, having reviews, comments, and links to the new title will benefit it and RBE greatly. If you are able to persuade others to post reviews of the new title as well, I would be extremely delighted.

In an age of downsizing and consolidating publishing houses, bankrupt and closing booksellers, and costly return policies, shippingand marketing expenses,one-man publishers such as myself need to take advantage of every edge Amazon provides. And believe me, there are plenty of them - but almost all of themfollowrecognition and sales.

Continue posting reviews and comments on your own sites, in forums, and wherever you find (or create) references to RBE and RotS. I appreciate every single recognition and comment out there.

Without the word of mouth by each of you, the fine authors and artists of RotS cannot receive the praise and name recognition they deserve. Without your support, it is less likely RBE will live up to its dreams and goals, let alone its potential.

Each of you can be a hero to RBE.

    Sincerely,

    Jason M. Waltz

    Jason ...
1.) Have you tried contacting Amazon or the reviewers of the first edition to see if it's possible to move those reviews to your new edition?
2.) I wouldn't mind posting a review myself, but being one of the writers of the anthology I thought it would seem pretty cheesy. If others disagree, I'd be glad to hear about it.

"Beneath a Persian Sun" upcoming in Carnivah House's "Infinity Swords" anthology
"Ogre" coming Feb. 16, 2009, to The Absent Willow Review

"The Death of Lester Williams" in the anthology Deadlines, "Peter Piker the Pankin Man" at Big Pulp, "Day Trip" at Demonic Tome, "Deep in the Land of the Ice and Snow" in "The Return of the Sword" anthology, "The Note" at Every Day Fiction, "Walking Between the Rain" at Every Day Fiction, "The Unconquered Mage" at Static Movement, "A Dragon's Tale" at Aphelion, "Terror in the Flare Lights" at The Tiny Globule, "Killing Just for Fun" at Demonic Tome, "Zombie Tears" at Tales of the Zombie War, "Steven Spielberg and The Magic Box" at The Ranfurly Review, "The Death of Lester Williams" at Crimson Highway, "Hot Off the Press" at Ray Gun Revival, "A Dragon's Tale" in Issue 22 of Beyond Centauri

1.a.) I've followed the Amazon instructions on updating a product twice to no avail. Today I submitted an email with detailed information through their Customer Care Center, so we'll see what happens with that. The FSP RotS will never be removed from Amazon - they don't remove titles, as even out of print it can still be bought and sold via used and markets - but they supposedly will link related products once they notice the link exists. While that is something at least, I'd rather have any reviews and comments be directly associated with the RBE title for several reasons, one of the most important being they are figured in Amazon's Sales Rank -- regardless of whatever anyone may think of it or how it's generated, it does hold weight and should be taken into consideration as one of many facets in the evaluation of successful book promotion -- which I've read too many articles on to not realize the direct relationship between that number and the number of books actually being sold on a regular basis.

1.b.) Today I requested each of the reviewers to repost or rewrite their reviews on the RBE RotS. It's the weekend and I don't expect anybody to just be sitting around waiting to receive emails from me, however.

2.) Jeff Draper is one of those reviewers, and he introduced his review from the start by saying he was a contributor. I think he did a fine job of it, too. I don't have any problem with it, as I know him and you, your tastes, and your own writing. However, I will admit that if I were to come across an anthology and a person I didn't have those connections with claimed to be one of the authors in it and then gave his/her opinion of the other stories, I'd have mixed emotions about. Again, however -- and I just read it 2x today from different sources -- it's word of mouth that generates the most book sales, so word of mouth is what every author, publisher, editor should be pursuing 24/7, from every and any source possible.
