    Default Dragon*Con 2009 ??

Might as well start it now . . .

I'll be heading down to Atlanta for the largest live spec-fic convention ever, come September and Labor Day weekend.

    Who's coming along this year?

Cool. Wanna talk? (I'm fairly certain Bill Ward and Nathan Jerpe will be there as well.)

It's never too soon, particularly if you are interested in renting a booth!

There is a small chance I'll be attending PAX out in Seattle instead, (think Dragon*Con but with more of a gaming flavor).

But if I do go to Dragon*Con I'll be sure to holler. I'd also be interested in getting a room at one of the downtown hotels, seeing as how they were raging pretty much day and night all weekend.

We should all go together on a room and/or a table - I know I can't swing either by myself.

I'd be up for sharing a room -- but we better do it soon if we want one in D-con proper.

If I can scrape up the money to get down there, I'll be there. This'll be the third time in a row I've tried to get there. Here's hoping the third time really is the charm.

Just FWIW, I found out about the price tag for the aforementioned PAX convention and proceeded to blanch significantly. So I am open for preliminary Dragon*Con planning.

Does anybody have any particular promo targets they are trying to meet? In the meantime, the Decatur Book Festival runs concurrent with Dragon*Con and should not be overlooked.

Just got invited as a panelist to Context again this year. So I can only manage Dragon*Con if I severely cut costs (the biggest being travel and lodging). Anyone in the Ohio area heading down there that I can bum a ride from (and pitch in for gas)? If so, I can also pitch in on sharing a room.

Well, I plan on going and will most likely be driving down from Milwaukee. 98% sure I'm driving, unless I come into sufficient funds enough to justify flying myself and boxes of books down to Atlanta. I'm looking for shared lodging, so if we can figure out a convenient meeting site, I can pick you up.

Since pratically every main highway/interstate that goes through Ohio also goes through Columbus, anyplace around Columbus will do. Then I can just hop on the Cota bus to wherever the meeting spot will be. Or do the bus/walk combo to wherever that I do on an almost daily basis. Let me know which highway you'll likely be coming from, and I can Mapquest the most convenient stopping spot for you. Or you can Mapquest it, whichever way you prefer.

Well I'm coming from Milwaukee on a 13 hour trip, so... Last year I went through/around Chicago to Indianapolis to Louisville to Nashville to Atlanta.

Columbus looks a little too out of the way, any chance of you getting to Cincy? It's 114 miles from Indy to Louy, 210 from Indy to Cincy to Louy, adding another hour or so to me trip. Not terrible, but I've only got 6 days off to travel to a 4 day convention - which matters, too: you wishing to stay all 4 days?

By Cincy, do you mean Cincinnati? Or another town?

Yeah.I can manage that. By bus it's a $45 dollar trip to Cincy plus $45 trip to Columbus from Cincy later, that's $90. How much will you need me to pitch in for gas?

To be honest, splitting lodging (and in as many ways as we can!) helps me more. I'm driving there regardless, so the gas is already being bought. If it matters terribly, covering the 2 hours extra driving, so about 1/4 to 1/2 a tank of gas, would be fine.

Do you have a timetable and any lodging preferences I need to be aware of? I like using Hotwire and other travel websites, prob with them is that you don't know exactly what you're getting until you pay for it. Last year I took my whole family and got a great hotel by the Atlanta airport for $45/night, pool, breakfast, everything. It was 13 miles from the convention, but the Marta electric train system there was awesome and reasonable. The only negative was that arrangement was not having a place to crash/store stuff so I could hang with the night life.

    Works for me!

Nope, no lodging preferences. As for timetable, whichever's the most convenient for you. Once I have a good idea of the approx. time I need to be in Cincy at, I can get a bus that arrives a couple hours early to be on the safe side. After all, I can always spend those two hours reading.

For D*C timetable, no preferences there, either.

Even though I've lived in Atlanta for 20 years, and my SCA group takes part in the parade, I've never attended Dragon*Con. Maybe next year.

Hmm, perhaps you should give it a try. RBE should have a booth there next year, and I'd like to see you stop by.

Thanks, Darkmoor; I'll plan to do that. (Maybe I'll be able to afford some decent mail to wear by then.)

ETA: And, now that I've looked at your website, I'd love to try writing something suitable for Rogue Blades.

I should have been there. The Decatur Book Festival was packed, but none of the writers, including myself, seemed to be recouping their investments. It was a great networking experience, though. A few of us are talking about getting a table for DC next year.
