Thread: Does anyone care that Batman is dead?

Default Does anyone care that Batman is dead?

When Captain Amercia died, it was every where. Bruce Wayne died this month and is there any mention of it any where in the press? Is this some kind of bias against DC? Or does Cap matter more to the public than such an iconic charcter as the Batman?

You got me. I hadn't heard anything about Captain America, either. Just what do you mean, though, by "Bruce Wayne" died? Did Adam West die? Did the character die in a comic book story? I don't understand ...

    (I didn't say anything. I swear.)

EDIT: Oops, there I go again. It isn't my place. Sorry. In fact, just forget I said anything, okay?

I care! When the heck did THAT happen?! You're right, they kept going on and on about the death of Captain America, especially in things like Wizard Magazine. But I haven't been following (today's) comics or checking out Wizard for some time now. So, they could be going on about and I wouldn't know.

I did a quick web search...are you talking about the Batman RIP story? Did they really kill off Bruce Wayne or just pull that lame-o "his Dad wasn't really dead" schtick? I think if he got shot (or whatever) by a villain claiming to be his dead-Dad-who-wasn't-really-dead, first off he'd investigate to see if it was true. Then, if actually true, having fanatically devoted his life to fighting crime, he'd have a new obsession/crusade aimed directly at that villain-his-Dad-has-become. And I think he's fanatical enough that the only way he'll ever really stop is if someone actually does kill him.

I am surprised that I didn't find out more with my quick web search. I never liked Cap half as much as I liked Batman. Of course, if ya wanna get psuedo-political about it, Captain America needed to die (from a certain point of view) since the America he was meant to embody arguably doesn't exist anymore. Whereas the dark, brooding, obsessive Batman seems to fit much better in the modern world.

Well, whether they killed him or drove him into retirement, I hear that Batman will go on, just with someone else wearing the suit. But Bruce Wayne has been Batman for so long that it just doesn't sound Right! Sure, Jean-Paul Valley AND Dick Grayson both got to call themselves Batman during the Knightfall storyline...but we all knew they were just killing time to have an Epic Event and bring back the REAL Batman!

*Shrug* On the one hand, I can't help but think "WHY do they have screw up my comics?!" But, on the other hand, I do understand that when you have a character who's been around as long as these classic characters, it gets harder and harder to come up with something "new" and "dramatic" that hasn't been done to This Character before.

No! Batman can't die! He has to live on to become an old man so Terry can take his place in Batman Beyond. They can make up for it by making a live action Batman Beyond film directed by Wes Craven. That's the only way I'll forgive them for this...

I find it hard to care after the whole death of Superman thing a few years ago... no doubt someone will find a way to bring Bruce back (did someone say Lazarus Pit?)

Well, I did some more web-searching last night with some different key words, and found a few more articles. However, it was kinda late and I was too dumb to bookmark 'em so I could link to them here.

Anyway, apparently Batman's "death" was only hinted at the end of the Batman RIP story, and didn't actually happen until Final Crisis #6. He was blasted by Darksied's Omega Sanction...ray...thingy. If I understand correctly, what this thing does is...sorta phases you through a whole bunch of alternate realities that are ever worse than the one you're from. Apparenty this decimates the body, cuz I found a cool pic of Superman holding Batman's skeletal corpse.

Somebody who follows comics closer thanI do posted a comment about how some other character died this way, and eventually returned to tell us that he was occupying the body of his counterpart in some other reality until he fell through a "hole" in reality and came back to the world he was origianally from. So, my guess is that Batman isn't really dead. He just needs a character with the ability to travel through Time And Relative Dimensions In Space to come give him a lift home. I'm sure it will happen. Grant Morrisson wrote this story and claims to keep writing Batman for some time to come. It's already being speculated on other sites that he plans to resolve this situation.

Besides, NOBODY really dies in comics! ...Well, except for Bucky, Jason Todd (the second Robin), and Spidey's Uncle Ben. And TWO of them have already returned from the grave!

I am going to try to do an article about all this for Abandoned Towers. I am sure Crystal Wizard will let you all know when it comes out. I hope to catch everyone up on what's happening in the DCU and the whole deal with Darkseid and Batman.
    Later,
