Rob, sent you a story. Hope ya like it.
Aside from the violence, there is a message in there, too.

Sent a S&S Flash to you. What are your response times looking like?

Website (I love feedback!): www.andrewjcooper.wordpress.com
Response times are poor. Check that...response times are not what they were for Black Dragon, White Dragon in that I'm not turning manuscripts around in a day or two. I'm getting reading time in fits and starts, usually monster chunks that come once a week (or less). So I'm tackling the subs at extremes: none for a week then twenty or thirty in a day. I've responded to a few hundred (best guess) with perhaps another 150 in the pile.
I'm getting there. And fear not when I close the door on submissions. I will post that I have read all manuscripts and let writers whose subs disappeared into the great internet ether resubmit.

Hi Rob,
All these queries about submissions have got me wondering myself. You were good enough to give me a quick no on my first submission, and I submitted a second Japanese fantasy several weeks ago. Was it received? Thanks.

Granted it's only5 reports, but with that data Duotrope lists the average response time at 48 days with the minimum being 37...so I expect it might be awhile before we hear anything.

Speaking of response times--and Rob's always been real good--I heard back from an editor after a year's wait and at least two queries--and you can bet that I kept an eye on his zine on Ralan's website. Anyway, I did a rewrite, which he requested, and now I'm waiting to hear back on that...

Allow me a blanket response that cuts short my work with regards to the above-mentioned didja-get-mines...
I am almost, nearly, 100% questionably certain I have received submissions from you several who asked. I recall seeing your names as I skimmed through the Inbox. Responses were very good for this antho, with a few hundred more subs to look at. I have a couple more acceptances which I have not posted here but will shortly. Word count for acceptances is about 1/3 of the book so far.
Now, if you have queried about me receiving your story and by some happenstance I don't have it, I will certainly let you resubmit after the deadline. This, by the way, is not an invitation to everyone who hasn't queried to throw me one. Ye gods! Have mercy on an old man!
I am absolutely looking forward to the end of the month, if for no other reason than I can stop reading stories that have ABSOLUTELY NO ACTION IN THEM! I feel the guidelines were written as clearly as possible, but I am turning away at least one third of all submissions with a line akin to 'sorry, there's not enough action in this story for an action-oriented collection.' At least when I was reading for Black Dragon, White Dragon I only got about five stories that didn't have dragons in them (and go figure, I bought one). Must have seen fifty stories to date where not so much as a single blow is struck. Sure have seen a lot of threatening to act, though. Sorry folks, not what I'm looking for.
Ok, 'nuff said there.

Thanks for the update Rob. I apologize for querying here on the status of my sub. I did not plan to do so, then fell prey to a panic attack after reading the queries of others. I totally feel your submission reading & responding pain my brother

Sorry bout causing trouble for ya. My email has been known to eat outgoing mail so I just wanted to make sure that my submission had arrived.
Action? Was this the action anthology?Oh S**T!, I thought it was the neo-gothic angst anthology. That's why there was only the one sword fight and two detailed deaths in the opening scene of my first story, which I did judge might not be fast paced enough.
When you get to the guy with the eye-liner talking about how unconnected his Dad is because he wants the kid to take the trash out once a week--that was for the actual Goth-angst anthology. And if I sent the torrid romance story, well it opens with a lot of action, what with the plantation owner's daughter and all those pirates, but it still might not be what you were looking for. . . .

Holy smokes. I just remembered you had expressed interest in a story idea I was mulling over earlier this year in the 'one story, two ideas' thread. It's roughed out, but I kept dodging writing the main battle scene. Eeeek. Guess I know what I will be doing tonight.
You needed some last minute reading, didn't you Mr. Santa?
Erm . . . are multiple submissions ok? I all ready sent you a story a few weeks ago.
P.S. - Erazmus, I'd be happy to critique that story with the plantation owner's daughter and the pirates for you.
