    Has anyone been over therelately?

It's changed a bit, with markets more specifically categorized. It seems to make the search a bit easier, as there are now listings for audio zines, flash zines, twitter zines, etc. That's the good news.

The bad news? I also just finished reading about a rather large number of closed publications and dead markets.

So now I'm left trying topinpoint where Imight send all this material I'm amassing...

Yeah, seems like the pickings have gotten especially slim of late. Not sure why that is, though I'm guessing the economy has a lot to do with it.

But there are newer markets that are looking pretty good. Heroic Fantasy Quarterly (http://www.heroicfantasyquarterly.com) and Staffs &amp; Starships (http://www.staffsandstarships.com/) are a couple to take note of. And keep a lookout for anthologies as well; there's usuallya few new ones that crop up every year. What kinds of markets are you looking for? Have you tried searching with duotrope's digest (http://www.duotrope.com/)?

Agree with most of what's been said above (and I check Ralan's at least once a week), but I'd add that the contest page has a few no-fee things that should be right up the alley of anyone on this board. Even flash contests that take reprints, which is a cool way to try to get a little more mileage out a small piece...

    A Repost from the website:

    ------------------------------------------------

Next month, September, is the big fundraising month for Ralan.com. This is not supposed to be a good year for raising funds for anything. I can understand that, but I also understand that Ralan.com will need funds to survive the next year, whether it's a better one than this or not. I also understand that all of you use Ralan.com, not only in the hope of getting your work in print, but also of making some needed extra money. As I remind you each year, it is a very few of you who actually donate anything. If everyone who visits this web site just gives $10 for the next year it'd be great. And for most of us, what's $10? For a year? If you absolutely can't give $10, then I also understand and will gladly accept less. Or if you can't give anything, I will also understand and hope things get better for you. If you can afford more, and feel Ralan.com gives you an edge in your search for publication, or if you have sold something due to a listing you found thanks to Ralan.com, then by all means feel free to give more. The point is ... to give something, if you can. I don't want it to hurt, but if you use this service I provide, surely it's worth something. When September rolls around please use the donation button to the left ... um, or above (wherever it ends up!) or write me for other ways.</BLOCKQUOTE>
