I'm just re-reading Mark Frost's novel: The List of Seven.
It's a rollocking gothic adventure set in Victorian times and is well worth a read by anyone who enjoys eerie thrillers.
The heroes are a young Doctor; Arthur Conan Doyle and Queen Victoria's Special Agent; Jack Sparks. A most lethal gentleman indeed.
From the back cover:
From the foggy streets of Victorian London to the wind swept moors of Yorkshire, a demonic conspiracy begins to unfold.
The List of Seven, a sinister brotherhood sworn to serve the Dark Lord, have a diabolical plot that threatens the Crown and the very fabric of society.
A ripping, gripping Victorian yarn. Breathless chases. Terror. Firepower. Warped science. Secret passages. As well as great pacing and action.
Frost has mastered a dry, understated, very English dictation that gives the whole story a life and spring heeled wit of it's own.
The List of Seven is a galloping gothic romance. (Independent.)
I enjoyed this book the first time I read it and have just now dug it out of our huge assortment of novels to read again.
And find it's just as good as the first time I read it.
Recommended for lovers of Victorian gothic fanatsy/thriller/horror/action/adventure.
