Default Free Books but dubious legality

Now I've come across some people with moxie before, but talk about snubbing your nose at convention and copyright and the law concerning author's ownership.

The site below has many, many great novels free to download, and being registered in Panama apparently means the guy is untouchable.

I post the link here only out of awed interest.

Well, probably a lot of the site's visitors will effectively use it as a way to sample books, going on to actually purchase a copy of a book if they find they like it.

Which does not in any way diminish the blatant violation of other's people property involved in the site or the fact that the guy doing this is a complete scumbag, mind you. I'm just pointing out a little silver lining to the cloud.

Well... things get fuzzy about books once they're out the door. And WAY fuzzy now that they are electronic files.

This guy isn't making any money off this, so how scummy is his bag?

And how does he compare to a guy with a store that sells used paperback books for cents on the dollar without paying the author any of it? And why?

Or, how about I go into hostels and hotels all over my area and here are these collections of books in English (and other languages that aren't "supported" by Mexican bookstores) Take one leave one is the policy. Even bars and restaurants to it.

People donate thousands of books to schools here.

    So..... I dunno?

Hmm...Lin has a point regarding used bookstores and other avenues of getting hold of books without the publisher or the author making any money from them.

Good God Lin do you realise you may just have announced the death knoll of used bookshops?

Wait until the lawyers get a hold of this one.
