Default The Penny Dreadful book company. Pulp is back!

Ghostwriter publications in the UK has started producing a series of penny dreadful chapbooks with cool covers and stories.
Many pulp tales to choose from.
All by new and modern authors.

    Enjoy: Jaq.

I neglected to ask you at the Conan forum-are you going to submit to this?

    Hi Scout

I've actually got a short story in their Creature Feature anthology and I wrote a 42,000 word novella for them a few months ago. The novella will appear (so they tell me) in 2010 in paperback form alongside another novella I have yet to submit.

I've been offered carte blanche to submit anything I want to them, as the editor likes my weird/adventure based tales.
And I fully intend to so in the near future.

It's all about finding the time...

I'm currently doing a crime noir thriller for a UK publishing house and that is taking up all my writing efforts at the moment.
I'm halfway through the novel, which isn't bad considering I only started it two weeks ago.

My own thoughts on ordering some of the chapbooks would be to order enough so that the postage is not more than the cost of the books to start with, as international postage can be quite expensive.

Thanks for you interest in my writing, mate.

    Cheers: Jaq.

    Cool.

So on the strength of your anthology submission they wanted to take a longer work?

I'm just asking because all I saw was submissions under 8k. 42k is almost a perfect pulp format. Can't wait to see if RBE starts doing this next year too.

Actually I wrote a 7000 word short for them and they liked the story so much they asked if I could punch it out to 45 K, which I did.

Then they asked if I had anything else and I sent a horror short, which straight away went into the Creature Feature anthology.
Then they asked if I had another novella we could make a two in one book out of...and yes I do.
Then they invited me to submit stories for their chapbooks.
The editor does like Conan type tales, so you should certainly get an acceptance if it's dark and eerie.

I'm hoping to get a preview copy of Berserker any day now to review.

They do like their writers to supply chapbook stories as they can use these to help steer readers in the direction of the author's longer novels.

    Cheers: Jaq.

No reason some of you guys and gals can't supply stories for the chapbook series.

I'd suggest not innundating them with S&S but do some eerie thrillers, horror, spooky stuff etc.

    Cheers: Jaq.

I am submitting a short eerie piece for Clockwork Phoenix-but if they dont accept it-Penny Dreadful will be the first place I send it.

And in any case I am sure I can come up with something different for them. I think I might like the idea of chap-books.

    Guys

    Hold everything.

Some of the authors at GWP have voiced concerns to me in regards to their publishing deals.

It could be nothing, it could be something, myself I'm going to wait and see what happens from now until Xmas.
