Me too -- and I had two stories with them that now won't be seen.

I liked it too. Really nice magazine. My story ran in issue 3, and I'm glad Rob got in--sorry yours won't see the light of day there, Bill, but good luck placing the stories elsewhere.

By the way, this is the second time tonight I've read a closing announcement (the other being Flashing Swords) that includes the words "because of the economic downturn."

Which brings me to another thought I had earlier today: Aren't there more speculative fiction fans out there who are independently wealthy? I mean, if even just a handful ofrich (or even just financially secure)sf fans decided to fill in these gaps as a labor of love, we wouldn't have to worry about economic downturns stripping the newsstands and the Web of high-quality sf publications.

This is one reason I'm making a very slow transition from hobby blog with stories, to token market zine (on wordpress, which doesn't look half bad, does it?), to eventually a semi-pro product. At 1 cent a word, a 5k story is (okay, I know I sound silly spelling it out) $50. Which, if it comes straight from the publisher's pocket x5 or 6 stories per, does make publishing each issue an expensive habit. Better than doing drugs I suppose. So yeah, when you find those angel investors, send one my way, lol.

I never subbed to this, but sorry to see it go. Just read Rob's story and enjoyed it thoroughly; nice ending. Sorry Bill, it's always exciting to get an acceptance, so disappointing when the market folds before those stories are published--this has happened to me several times over as well. Good luck with the tales.
