How are the submissions coming so far? Also, quick question about the crowd's role. What are you looking for, exactly? I know your guidelines say that the story can't be told the same way without the crowd, but does this mean the crowd actually has to be part of the melee or can they be active observers?

My story is shaping up to be more character driven at this point, and while the crowd is important, my story isn't a massive role playing game. (Also, when I said comic or tragic above, I meant happy ending vs sad ending, lol - not comedic in the moder sense, that would be...odd, wouldn't it? lol) Thanks!

PS Currently at 4000 words and going strong. I like writing assignments, I should do this more often. In fact, The Griot has an African-based Sword & Soul antho in the works that I'm considering researching for. More like a school project that way, which seems to be the mode I'm in lately. lol

Well, over the past 4 weeks I have received some subs, some updates on stories-in-progress, and some promises to submit. This is shaping up to be a difficult one to fill. I sincerely hope that once I begin reading in February I will not find a story I do not want.

CROWDS: What I want is for the crowd to play a role - any role - in the outcome of the tale. Just like in Rage of the Behemoth, if the story could be told without the behemoth - in this case the crowd - I don't want it. The crowd could change the course of events in any number of ways, from joining a side, becoming a third (fourth or fifth?) side, simply being an impediment, a benefit, a distraction, a jury (and/or judge), etc.

It's up to you to (a) give me a rousing tale of heroic adventure fantasy set within a real-to-life gaming event that (b) gets screwed up or saved by the onlookers/audience/spectators!

Working on mine, a Changa prequel story. I think it will fit. The crowd will definitely make a difference.

Not trying to hijack this thread, but... "In fact, The Griot has an African-based Sword & Soul antho in the works that I'm considering researching for." - I hadn't been aware of this and couldn't find any reference to it on the MV Media site, but I'm potentially interested in this. Any further info, please?

Not a hijacking, dear tchernabyelo! (Okay, why don't I get that name?) I fully intended to pursue that line myself. Whether I'd try to write for it is another matter, but I'll definitely help promote it!

I might have let the cat out of the bag...I had to pry it out of the Griot myself! lol - from what I hear it's mostly an invite antho for sword and soul veterans (ie, I assume this is the case as I've not been invited since, well, I've never written anything similar to what Milton is looking for! lol). So you might want to pm him directly for the sub guidelines.

Sorry, now back to our regularly scheduled RB thread.

No problem, Lyn. I plan to make a formal announcement on this site next week, guidelines included.

In the meantime my 'Crowd' story is tentatively titled 'Mbogo Returns.'

My story is getting too big, I don't see how I can wrap it up in 15,000 words-so unless its alright to submit at least a 17,000 word piece this one's out.

And of course you would have to want it Jason, I'm not trying to presume.

I may try to put something shorter (but above 5K words) together right quick.

Since we are updating one another, I'm currently working on a story in an alt-fantasy China, dealing with a dragonboat festival.
