    Default Odyssey Con X

    Madison, Wisconsin, USA
    April 16-18

    http://www.oddcon.com/

    I usually go.
Looks like Nicholas Ozment is going...at least his name is on the programming list.
If I go and if they accept my suggested panel, John O'Neill will be joining me...but I'll have to keep y'all in the loop...

As I have for the last two years, I think I'm only going to make it for Saturday. Hope I'll be able to see your panel!

Oddly, my panel is not to be found on the current programming list. I've emailed inquiry as to why that is. Way it's looking right now, I'll only be coming on Saturday as well. If so, we'll have to make a point of meeting.

Jason, what was your panel about? If it gets added, I'll see about signing up for it if you want--it'd be cool to get together with youse guys. I haven't seen John since WFC 2007 (we were so young then...).

I was seriously considering attending Oddcon, but then they put me down for an author reading and a couple panels and that, uh, sealed the deal.

I proposed a panel called 'A New Edge to Sword & Sorcery - a discussion on the current state of S&S, the writings of its older generation, and recognition of today's S&S and who's writing it.' I invited John to come along and he agreed and even offered to chair. EE Knight usually comes to OddCon, so I also invited him to sit with us. You are more than welcome to join the panel Nicholas - it'd be great to have a prof of lit who has a clue about the genre and the authors.

I still haven't heard from the programming folks though as to where my panel went. It is still not on the programming list on the OddCon site and they haven't replied to my querying emails. I sweet talked John into doing this, so if it's not on it would only fair to him to let him know as early as possible.

Without the panel and with zero interest in the alternative history genre GOH, I'm highly disinterested in attending. I had to schedule vacation days for Friday and Sunday, and if I don't really have to spend them I probably won't at this rate. So I hope your reading/panels are on Saturday Nicholas...which was also the day John and I requested for the S&S panel.

Well I've received my answer! The OddCon X programming WILL include "A New Edge to Sword & Sorcery"! So you're welcome to join us Nicholas. I've let the programming manager know of your interest. I look forward to meeting you.

Aw cool! After reading your first post response, I got really excited about the panel topic and hoped it would be added---then I read your next post and was thrilled to see that they got back to you and it's on.

I'm teaching a class on American Fantasy this semester and am just getting to the first S&S writers (especially Robert E Howard and Fritz Leiber), so that first generation will definitely be on my mind.

Hi Jason--I sent you a PM through the SFReader Bulletin here, but after I sent it my Inbox shows 0 Sent messages--so can you let me know if you receive it?

Oh boy oh boy oh boy! The updated program just went up yesterday. Looks like I'm on the MIDNIGHT HORROR PANEL--that's right up my dark and spooky alley--and one on Doctor Who and one on the benefits of table-top roleplaying compared to online gaming. Keeping my fingers crossed that none of these conflict with von Darkmoor's, because I really want to see that one.

Hey Nicholas! Looking forward to meeting I hope you can sit our S&S panel, but I totally understand cross-scheduling.

I have a bit of a conundrum this year...not only is it a difficult theme this year (what with alternative holding little interest for me), my usual weekend housing is more than likely not available, so I'll be tripping back and forth from Milwaukee. Not bad, but not ideal for attending Midnight Horror Panels either...

There are times I really wished I lived in that area. This Con is something I'd attend if I could.
