Thread: Microsoft Upgrade causes BSoD

  1. #1

    Default Microsoft Upgrade causes BSoD

That's "Blue Screen of Death" for those of you not in-the-know. One of the last batches of upgrades from Microsoft (you know, the kind that automatically happen) for a not-insignificant number of XP users held a security flaw that allowed malware hidden in the rootkit to become active after a second upgrade. What happens is the computer shuts down and is unable to be started, even in safe mode.

Go ahead, ask me how I know this.

I'll bite, how did you learn about this, Rob?
No wait, maybe I'm better off not knowing . . .

It's why I dont bother updating the MS downloads.
Haven't done so for a couple of years now.

I've found XP to be a very stable platform without any added MS downloads.

And I don't use IE to surf with anyway.
    Who does?
Plenty of other systems to use for Net viewing.
We don't even update or use IE at work.

I take back half the terible things I thought about Microsoft. Turns out my (insert appropriate curse word here) motherboard fried for reasons known only to (repeat curse word here) motherboards.

Transfering data tonight and tomorrow. Tons of fun will surely ensue.
