Default The Warded Man by Peter V Brett

I have lots of trouble finding fantasy books that I'll like. I've been a pretty devout Terry Brooks follower but I don't even look forward to his stuff as much as I used to. So the Warded Man takes place in a world where demons rise up every night to tear up human beings. The only thing keeping the human race alive is a series of magical wards that they paint on their doors and walls to keep the demons out. It makes it dangerous and difficult at night so the human race is fragmented and afraid.

The book's been out about 2 years and it's gotten great reviews everywhere. I finally gave in and read it. It lived up to the hype. It's a great book and a quick read and I recommend it to anyone who likes fantasy and sci fi and even some people who don't.

There's a sequel that's just come out called the Desert Spear. I haven't picked it up yet but I'm looking forward to it.

Hmm. Sounds like the sort of book I haven't read before... I'll have to keep an eye out for it in the bookstore. To be honest, I'm so behind on my reading lately that it being "a quick read" definitely appeals to me as well. (Actually, it appeals to me anyway, as novels are so often bloated on filler these days.)

I had it in my hand this past weekend but opted for the second book in Joe Abercrombie's The Blade Itself series. It does look very interesting. The first book is out in mass paperback now. Thanks for the quick review.

Since I've gotten a Droid phone I've been reading everything on it. I generally only read during my commute so it's much easier than carrying a paperbook (or heaven forbid a hardcover). For the first couple of months I couldn't find an app that allowed me to buy mass market stuff but I then got my hands on ereader. The books are sooooo expensive. Amazon has its electronic version of the Desert Spear for $9.99 while ereader has it for $32.00. In short, I'm waiting for the promised Kindle app for the droid. If you know of another app I'd love to hear about it. Thanks.
