searching for "OLD" science fiction book........

I am older than dirt so this could easily have been read by me in the 60.s or 70.s. Maybe earlier but probably not. Here is the "plot" such as it is.

duiling tournaments, sorta. both men and women arew ranked. all entrants have to fight, till there is only one standing. winner takes all.

Sadly to say that is all that I can remember other than the fact that it was SF. I realize getting help with a title/author is probably hopeless. Nevertheless I keep trying.

that's pretty general. Do you remember anything about the setting or the characters?

Darn, that rings a faint bell, does this?...they're fighting in parks for everything each owns, house and all, sort of assassinations tournaments? If so, then I think it was written by a well-known major author like Clarke or Asimov or someone, and I do think it dates back to the 60s.
