Default Is there anyone who worked for the NYPD in the 1950's out there?

I have a good friend who is writing a crime thriller set in 1950's New York and would very much like to talk to someone who either worked in the police force at the time, or knew someone who did. I volunteered to ask you good folks as I was sure that if any of you did know someone, you wouldn't mind helping out...

    Sorry, I can't help you.

However, I would suggest your friend read a few of Ed McBain's 87th Precinct novels (there's a bunch of them), especially the ones from the early 1960s. He uses a fictional city, but it's all based upon NYC and is based upon actual police procedures of the time. If nothing else, might be interesting read.

Thank you for the heads-up, Ty. I'll mention it to her if she can't find anything. Her crime action takes place in April 1957 & her protagonist is a female crime scene photographer who was working freelance & gets sucked into helping the police out when their 'regular' goes sick.
