Back in May I sent you a story for this issue. "A Whiff of Jasmine." A hardboiled private eye yarn set in the fifites. You said AT could use a story of that genre but you wouldn't be able to read it until Sept. Never heard a word and now I see the story is not listed in the contents. Was it rejected? Or is it on hold? Or what? That story has been tied up now for four months. If you don't want it, please let me know.

    Jack Brand (Novel)
The Man Who Had No Soul in Science Fiction Trails # 7
Undead Empire, Gog! in Conquest by Determination
    Rancho Diablo in Trigger Reflex
Samurai Blade in Showdown at Midnight
Little China in How the West Was Wicked
The Last Payday of the Killibrew Mine in Leather, Denim & Silver
The King of Sorango, in Shadows & Light Vol. 2
Bride of the Sea, in Quest for Atlantis

John, the stuff in issue #7 was accepted last year. And since I"m only putting out one print issue next year, it's also full. The stuff with responses due back this month are just now getting them back. We're not accepting anything for print right now, just online. I'm not interested in filling up the only print issue I'll have on 2012 this early.

Now, if several people want to volunteer to learn layout and design, and get copies of InDesign CS4 and ASSIST me with putting out print issues of the magazine I can go back to more than one print issue a year. But until that happens, AT print will be a once a year summer issue and everything else will be online content.

    CW,

When I subbed it was with the understanding that I didn't want to sub it to the online version. If it was accepted, it would to be in the Nov. print issue, or not at all. Maybe your publication schedule changed since then, but that's not my problem. I just now heard from your acquisitions editor that the story has been accepted for the online AT. I'm sorry, but I'm going to have to say no. If you can't fit it in the print mag, then I'll have to withdraw it. Thanks anyway.

John, I don't know where you got the idea that if it was accepted it would automatically be scheduled for the Nov. print issue. When I responded to your submission, I told you that I was sending it out to the editorial team and that you could expect a response back in September. Which you were less than thrilled with. I said nothing about what issue it would be in if it were accepted for print. I never tell any author what issue a story is going to be scheduled for until after it's accepted, because I never KNOW what issue I'm going to schedule it in until that point.

I think that at this point, since there is so often miscommunication between us over your submissions that it would be best if you simply refrained from sending me anything else as all that is likely to happen is that the consideration process will take longer than you're happy with and then we'll ask for revisions you don't wish to do.

There are lots of other publications out there that are probably a better fit for your writing than we are.
