After this one poem of mine was at a pro e-zine for nine months, I sent my standard query. Just saying, you know, I submitted this poem back on such-and-such a date, so I want to make sure they received the poem and, if so, that it's still under consideration. That's all. No biggie.
Surprised to get a rather defensive reply back from the editor saying that yes, the poem is still under consideration, but going on to say that nine months is pretty good compared to other magazines of their caliber--Some of them keep subs for over a year! Okay, fine--I wasn't complaining. Just making sure the poem hadn't been lost in limbo.
So, the reason I'm griping is that it's now surpassed one year. I wonder, if I send another query, will the editor say, hey, 13 months is not bad for a pro level mag--some of them keep subs for two years!
Their guidelines list response time of under four months, incidentally.
