You all might already be aware of this individual’s shenanigans, but for those who haven't, the following articles from Victoria Strauss of Writer Beware! might be worthwhile to read, especially if you write horror.

Apparently a writer/editor who goes by "Iron Dave Boyer" as well as a bagful of other names has been publishing other people’s fiction and artwork as his own.

I heard about this, and I remembered New Voices in Fiction, a webzine of which he was the editor. I don't know if it's still around.

When I hear about these cases of plagiarism, I can only wonder. Claiming someone else's work as your own seems, to me, to be a shameful act that's bound to backfire.

What baffles me is that some of these plagiarists sell the stories they steal to non-paying or token paying magazines. In other words, they get a whopping 5 bucks for their crime, or in some cases--nothing. Bizarre. It's so hard to get published in professional short fiction magazines (unless you have a big reputation) that plagiarism makes no sense at all from a business standpoint. The plagiarists never seem to make any significant money off their thefts. What can be said other than that these people are total jackasses?

Boyer has been served with papers in a civil suit by Rick Moore's attorney. The AG of Indiana has begun looking into it. Indiana seems to have a very strong record of prosecuting internet crimes that hurt small authors.
