Thread: Write 1 Sub 1

  1. Default Write 1 Sub 1

I wasn't quite sure which subforum to put this in, but here is where it's ended up

Yesterday, in my interweb travels, i came across this site: Write 1 Sub 1. It's a great idea, inspired by Ray Bradbury and NaNoWriMo.

Basically, they want writers to challenge themselves to write and *submit* a short story either every week, or every month, of next year.

I've joined up, as have (so far) 24 other people. My plan is to write and submit 2 stories a month. I think it's going to be a really interesting ride, and doubly so because i'm doing it with a group of other like-minded writers.

If anybody else is interested, do head on over and sign up. I'm sure all of us participants would love some more company. It is a year-long commitment, and not necessarily an easy one, but definitely, in my opinion, worthwhile. If you need some extra inspiration check out what the Zen master of short fiction has to say: Ray Bradbury on Persistent Writing.

    Bring on 2011!

    Great idea.

Dean Wesley Smith posted his goal this year is to write and e-publish two short stories a week!

I certainly agree with the concept: get it done and get it out of the house.

Two a week? Hells bells. That's pushing it, i reckon. Maybe he's one of that rare breed who writes publishable first drafts.

So, you gonna join the fun? There's a weekly and a monthly plan. Or you can tailor it to your writing schedule. Go on, do it.

He's a firm proponant of not editing past a quick proofread.

I really want to say "yes," but...

I'm getting back into writing now after about ten years more off than on. My goal now is 365,000 words of new prose fiction this year, and I haven't even thought about submitting. Sure, I intend to, but my priority now is just production, publishable or not.

I'll check out the site, though.

Fair enough. 365,000 words of new prose is a good goal. And well done for putting a goal like that in place to get yourself back into the writing groove.

I'll check out the site, though.
Cool. Maybe it'll be a peripheral help with your motivation.

I don't know if I'll join up with the site, but this is definitely something I need to take on for the coming year. My submissions record this past year has been just atrocious.

Well, Robert, if you do decide to join up, that'd be awesome. If not, then maybe keeping track of the site will help you keep your motivation up for the goals you set yourself.

Hm. I'm not sure about signing up, either. But I WILL nail my colours to the mast and undertake to SUBMIT this coming year. I started last year ok - and then goodness knows what happened, but I turned around, it was November and I hadn't submitted anything for 6 months *shuffles and hangs head in shame*... So, I'm definitely up for ensuring that I submit SOMETHING at least once a week. There. I've said it...
