    Default Literary vocabulary

What is the term used to describe the ending of a work which leaves the main conflict unresolved?

    *snerk* Good one.

Other than saying there is a "lack of closure," I know of no specific term within literary criticism that suits that.

It's known as an inconclusive ending...

SM is right. There is a specific literary term for what he is describing. I've read it before. I don't remember what it is right now but I'll try to find it.

All I could find was "indeterminate". I usually call it "huge disappointment".

I've heard it referred to as a Lady or the Tiger Ending. From a short story by Frank R.Stockton. The protagonist must chose which door to open. Behind one door is a woman, behind the other a tiger. The Story ends before the choice is made. Was this the inspiration for the Lets's Make a Deal TV game show? Who knows?
