    The noted US author and critic Joanna Russ passed away on 29 April 2011.

    Author of, among others. The Female Man and The Adventures of Alyx, Joanna Russ was at the forefront of the American New Wave of the late 1960's and early 70's and was one of the first authors to bring feminism into science fiction.

    I read her novalla 'Souls' as a young teenager and it was mostly over my head and didn't like it much at the time. I only read it because it was the flipside to me Tor double edition of 'Houston, Houston, Do You Read?'

    Years later I read some of her short stories and gained respect for her.
