Borders and Angus and Robertson's bookshops just closed down here, John.
Borders Australia is now online only...but all they're really doing is using the internet online bookshop catalogue lists, which are the same world wide.
So in truth Borders isn't really selling your novel in Oz. It's just one of millions of books listed in their online catalogue. If anyone did order it, it would still be printed, bound and shipped from the USA.
The price difference is just how much the Oz dollar was worth against the US dollar on the day. Books sold in bookshops in Oz are in the norm more expensive than books available on the internet from the Book Depository and Amazon UK.
Which is why the two book stores mentioned above have gone under. People were finally able to order their books at a reasonable price on the internet and not the vastly overpriced rip off amount the book stores here sold them for.
I will say again; despite so called statistical evidence to the contray...hardly any white Australian's read, compared to people in the USA and the UK. I know a great many people, mostly guys I admit, mostly between 30 and 60, ...not a one of them read books and most proudly boast of that fact. Little wonder book stores had to charge so much for books, they couldn't make a profit otherwise, because they sell so few compared to sister shops overseas.
The strange thing is a lot of them are on internet forums or use the internet every day. But they won't read books.
Every day at work someone asks me if I've sen a particular movie and I say no. I then ask if they've read any good books lately...and I always get an odd look and a shake of the head. "Nah, mate. I don't read books. Not since I was at school anyway."

Fugettaboudit. I just noticed that the listing is out of date and the book is no longer available. Heh, heh. Maybe they sold out.

Hey i just finished the book. I have to say it rocks! I found myself liking Jack quite a bit. The character had a strong consistency. I even got a little emotional at the end. I always take that as a good sign. Congrats man. Nicely done.
Mike
Hey, Mike, thanks a lot. Those are words a writer loves to read. Glad you came to like Brand as much as you did. You mention the emotional impact of the story, and I have to say after I finished putting it all together I was surprised at the level of emotion in it, even though its a hard core adventure story. The emotions come from Brand's relationship to the women in the story. And also I guess from his obsessive dedication to the search for his sister Terry. I didn't think the cover illustration of him really portrays him the way he appears in the book. The publisher and artist decided to go for a younger looking, more handsome character. Jack Brand was really modeled on Western star Randolph Scott, who was more square jawed and weatherbeaten, for want of a better word. Anyway, thanks again for reading it and taking the time to let me know what you thought about it. I'm writing a different sort of novel now, but maybe someday I can get back to chronicling the further adventures of Jack Brand.

I can't really tell you here where I got more emotional without it being a plot spoiler. I'll just say that it occurred most in the last story and I'm sure you'll know what I mean.
BTW I might be heading down under with my wife this August. My daughter is moving there for a year. I will want to use this chance to check the place out as much as I can. You do live there right?

Opps...
Not sure why I thought that. Perhaps it was the title of this thread. My daughter is starting her masters down there. I believe she will be in the northern part of the country. I do intend to visit. It would be nice to network with some authors along the way. Shoot I have read a lot of your stuff Jaqhama. Maybe you can work in a road trip on your bike in August.
