    Default Captain America..hmmm

We hired Captain America for 2 bucks tonight.
Watched an hour and turned it off.
I might have liked it when I was 8 years old. Reminded me of the original Flash Gordon serial we used to watch at the local cinema on Sat mornings.
If the intention was to produce pure retro B-grade pulp then they succeded admirably.

Yes, they did and that's why I thought it was probably the most enjoyable comic book superhero movie I've seen. A refreshing change from the Dark Knight and others which seem intent on distorting superherodom by turning the heroes into violent psychotics. Director Joe Johnston is good at retro pulp. His Rocketeer is another in the same vein as Captain America and was also well done. I would love it if some studio gave Johnston the green light on a new Flash Gordon movie. It would be great. I give Captain America three thumbs up out of four. Sorry to disagree but don't forget you're talking to somebody with the mind of an 8 year old.

I usually prefer anti-heroes, and yes, the occasional violent psychotic , but even I loved Cap. When they had to get the flag from the flagpole during basic training - that was classic. Though I was in a theater packed with airmen and their families, so a lot of that movie resonated with the audience.

The base had quite a few free sneak peeks at the super hero movies this year. Captain America was standing room only by curtain time. I've never seen our little base theater so packed.

I like my antiheroes too. But I like original ones, not reboots of superheros previously known as good guys. Frank Miller had a clever idea in The Dark Knight returns, but I guess not too many other people have clever ideas like that, so instead they just repeat what he did. At least Cap retains his integrity.

Coming Soon: CAPTAIN AMERICA VS. THE DARK KNIGHT.

Cap: I'm taking you in, Bats. You really are the sick bastard Commissioner Gordon always said you were!

Bats: No. No. I'm not really a psycho. I'm just being written that way. Blame Frank Miller, not me.

For me the first Spiderman movie was the perfect comic book to big screen adaptation.
In fact I can't understand why they've just made another version of it. Toby MacQuire had the role of Peter Parker/Spidey down pat.
