    Default Dymocks D-Store; Authors Beware!

Dymocks is an Australian chain of bookshops.

They now seek to enter the POD marketplace.
Their author's contract is terrible for the writer wisihing to sign up with them.

The article below describes the situation much better than I could:

I already sent a copy of this to Preditors and Editors, they don't think much of Dymocks contract either.

Why would anyone in their right mind sign a contract like that? I can't imagine they've gotten many writers to sign, but then who knows. There are a lot of desperate writers out there, especially new ones, eager to get into print. Interesting to me that its a chain of bookshops doing this. I wonder if they place the books in their stores, or is that asking too much? I like the name Dymocks. Is that short for Dis contract is a mockery?

I gather they will put your books onto their shelves, though how many books in how many stores is another question.
    I haven't investigated that far.

But it all sounds very suspect to me.

They don't do any editing, grammar checks, formatting, front covers etc. You just pay them X amount of dollars and sign away all your rights. Sounds like a bargain to me.
