Default Angry Robot Open Door in April

Some news that might be of interest to the various writers here:

"Following a successful Open Door period in 2011 (we signed 3 debut authors from it!), we?ve decided to do it again! This time around, we?re looking for classic fantasy (for Angry Robot) and all sf/fantasy flavours of YA (for Strange Chemistry).

If you have completed a novel, and are unagented, between April 16th and 30th this year, we?ll happily read it for possible publication. If you are agented, this isn?t for you ? submit via the usual route."

I'm still waiting for a yes or no from last year.
Lee, their editor last sent me an email about three months ago saying: Almost there.

I'm going to email him again right now. My patience isn't limitless.

    Thanks for the info, Chee.

    UPDATE:

Got an email back from the editor, said he'd sent me a rejection back in Dec.
If he says so. My inbox knows different.

Anyway, says he enjoyed the story but it wasn't quite what Angry Robot was looking for.
Suggests I keep sending it out to other agents and publishers.

I have already subbed it to several others anyway, I don't buy into publishers 'no simultaneous submissions' spiel.
It's good for them, bad for the writer.

Good luck to you guys and gals that submit a fantasy novel to Angry Robot. They do publish some quality stuff.

    Cheers: Jaq

Looking at the other stuff they publish, I'm wondering just what kind of "classic" fantasy they're looking for. What I always thought was classic (Tolkien et al.) sure doesn't have the blood, gore, horror, and clockwork they seem to like. Is the leopard changing his shorts?
