Thread: Groundhog Day Special

    Default Groundhog Day Special

For one day only, Feb. 2, Science Fiction Trails is having a Groundhog Day special. You can download for free---that's right, FREE!---Kindle versions of Science Fiction Trails Magazine, Issue No. 7 and the Showdown at Midnight anthology.
SFTM No. 7 has my story, The Man Who Had No Soul, which placed sixth in the Preditors and Editors Poll. I think it's one of the best stories I've done about Mordecai Slate, Monster Hunter. Showdown at Midnight has Samurai Blade, another Slate tale in which he battles the ghost of a Samurai seeking restoration of his honor---another good story. So take advantage of this opportunity to get these stories free. Feb. 2 only. Just go to the Amazon.com site and download them.

If you download Showdown at Midnight you'll see some editorial mistakes (and I know you will) that I just caught myself. In the scene in Marshal Tilghman's office, the villain is referred to as Harcourt instead of Courtland. My fault, and the editor's fault, he didn't catch it. But worse there is no transition spacing between that scene and the next one which creates a ridiculous exchange of dialog. It looks almost like Slate is saying "I'm no ordinary woman," when in fact, its Mrs. Wilkins who's saying it. That mistake is only in the Kindle version, not in print. I've complained about it but probably it can't be fixed. However, it gives me an idea for a whole new slant on the Mordecai Slate series!!!

Update. The publisher says he can fix the errors but not until after the special.

Haven't read the story yet, John.

So you're safe for a bit longer.

Maybe it was Slate's feminine side coming out...or maybe...gasp...he's really a she...or a woman in a man's body...or a shemale cowboy gunslinger with a pistol as well as a....Linda says I should stop here.

How about a new series: Morticia Slate Drag Queen of the Zombie Hunters? I'll bet there's a market for it.
