Arrow RotC Open Subs Closing Fast!

A friendly RBE reminder that the 2010 RBE Premium R-Series Anthology Roar of the Crowd will soon be closing to submissions!

If you've been dying and trying to get into a RBE title, this might be just the one for you! The challenging theme has limited the competition so that NOW is the time to strike!

Crowds influencing the outcome of the story are the name of the game for this antho. The guidelines provide all sorts of ancient games as examples - but those weren't the only events folks gathered from all across a country for.

How about royal nuptials...or funeral processions...or returning triumphant generals...or new conquerors...or capital punishments such as drawn-and-quarterings or hangings?

The ideas are endless...but time to submit is not.

In all honesty, Bill, every crowd-related event was intended from the get-go. In all the hubbub over the ancient games I let that slip away unnoticed.

Does it have to be fantasy based? Can it be western?

Does it have to fall within a certain time period?

Pre-industrial and pre-renaissance from what I remember of the guidelines (and Jason's tastes).

    Speculative aspects are demanded.

    Heroic elements are expected.

Pre-industrial for certain, pre-renaissance...depends. I'm okay with the first stage(s) of firearms, after all the Chinese were using them long before Western cultures were, so I cannot simply say 'pre-guns' or 'pre-gunpowder' and I did publish Bruce's "Valley of Bones" in which flintlocks play a part.

RBE is first and foremost a publisher of heroic adventure fantasy - so all those elements must be present in each story. Once I get a few more titles under my belt and get settled into things a bit better there will be expansion...of sorts. For now, while I enjoy a grand ol'Three Musketeers story just as much as the next reader, odds are much more in favor of my accepting a Kane or Tarzan or Druss tale any day.

Not that much of a time gap between Kane and d'Artagnan...

...oh, wait. Kane. For a moment I thought you meant Solomon Kane.

While I have nothing but respect for ol'Solomon the Englishman on edge, I personally will take the immortal Kane over him - both in person and in story - any day.

Jason, you might want to rethink that one. Kane. In person.

    Think about it.

yeah, yeah, was waiting for someone to catch me on that. Good to see you 'round these here parts, Darkbow I used the wrong word - meant 'in character' not right here in the room with me. I wouldn't want either one of them in the room with me.

Conan though, now that could be cool...
