I think that's an excellent idea. An anthology in the spirit of Doc Savage but obviously not . Not necessarily pastiches (which seem a bit too fannish to me) but something Doc fans would love. I'll get back to you. I'll run it by Jack Mackenzie, the world's biggest Doc fan. if he'll agree to do a story, we'll go with it.

What did Jack say? I would love to get started on something like this!

"The View from the Shotglass Floor" T. N. Thomas' TimeFlash, August 2006
"The Death of Number 23" Dark Krypt, July 2006
"Servant of the Manthycore" Sword Review, April 2006
"Voice of the Spoiler" Better Fiction,Spring 2006
"Dancing with the Elder Gods"-- Thirteen Magazine, October 2005

I approached my partner in crime, Jack Mackenzie about the idea. He was already writing a quasi-Doc novel so he's interested. Perhaps a line of books? I was also planning on re-building the AMAZING HEROES website (based on the now defunct BRONZE JOURNAL website) as a focal point for Doc-related stuff.

There are a number of great Doc sites. I usually go to Pulp.net and look around there for them. I am quite excited about the idea for this book. I'd like to see it be a fiction-comic book type of thing.

If you want a more modern Doc riff, try Aaron Allston's Doc Sidhe. There are two books, and Baen has the first one available for all to check out.

I think I'd be interested in trying my hand at a modern scientific adventurer story. I'm notoriusly slow at producing work but if I come up with a plot . . .

In adition to having a fortress of solitude, Doc was also known as the Man of Bronze.

I loved the early Doc books. Later, though, they got too much into the Nazis-as-bad-guys model and they books ended up moralizing more than telling an entertaining story. Overall, I'd say the 1930's Savage books are lots of fun; the 1940s books not so much. (Plus, after a hundred books, the desciptions of Doc, Monk, Renny and the others started to sound like they were cut-and-pasted from earlier books--a little too formulaic for me.)
